Travel Insurance

A vacation is an important investment. Cancellation insurance can help keep that investment safe if something happens. Cancellation insurance covers illness, injury or death involving you, a travel companion or immediate family member. It covers unforeseen circumstances (jury duty, home made inhabitable). It covers travel delay, interruption and emergency medical evaluation.

It does not cover any job related problems or acts of war.

VISAS

Visas are required for U.S. Citizens to visit some countries. These are not Visa credit cards to charge your purchases, but a piece of paper or a stamp in your passport that allows you to enter and exit a country. Brazil, China, Russia, Australia, Kenya, Belarus are a few that still require Visas.
Did you know that Australia has electronic visas? You just call your passport information into your airline or the travel agent you booked the trip with.

Stress-Free - Healthy Travel Tips!Passport

  • REMEMBER: ALL U.S. Citizens are Required to have a passport for travel anywhere outside the United States starting December 31, 2006. Don't wait get yours now!
  • Book big-ticket items like airfare and other transportation and accommodations rentals well in advance with Smith world Travel to ensure having choices.
  • Be flexible. Expect that some plans awry. Getting lost can lead to memorable experiences if you remain calm.
  • Pack light. If you can't carry all your bags, you're taking too much.
  • Leave the cell phone, pager and laptop at home. Vacations are about detaching from work.
  • Don't overbook your itinerary. Everything takes longer in a strange place. Allow time for vegging out, even on an active vacation.
  • Don't overspend. Research prices at your destination, especially if going abroad. Ask your travel agent. So you don't get sticker shock from the price of a salad in France.
  • But don't pass on a vacation for the lack of money or time. Even a weekend in Glenwood Springs can yield restorative results.
  • Try to get home at least a day before you have to return to work.
  • Unpack slowly, open mail, return calls and ease back into your routine.

Travel Health Tips

  • Take extra copies of your prescription medicine and glasses.
  • Carry medications in your carry-on, never in your checked in luggage.
  • Use caution in drinking water including ice cubes.
  • Eat fruits and vegetables that are peeled and or cooked.
  • Carry an antibacterial liquid hand cleanser with you.
  • If you have special dietary needs let your travel agent know in advance.
  • Carry a 4th of a roll of toilet paper, just in case.
  • Wet wipes are handy to have.
  • Carry bug spray when in the tropics.

Jet-Lag

  • Get plenty of rest in the days prior to your flight.
  • During the flight prepare your body's clock for the time change. If the flight arrives in the evening try to stay awake on your flight. If your flight arrives in the morning try to sleep as much as you can on the flight.
  • Water is the best thing to drink, take bottled water so you have something when the beverage cart isn't going around. Drink 8oz. of water every hour. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, they will dehydrate you.
  • Take advantage of the times when the seat belt sign is turned off. Get up and walk down the aisle to stretch the body and get your blood circulating.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothes and the most comfortable shoes possible.
  • Don't eat too much before your flight, cabin pressure and cramped places can upset your digestion.
Eat and sleep in your destination time zone. Even though your body is wanting sleep try to stay awake until nighttime.
  • On the first night of your stay take a warm bath. This will replenish your body's moisture and will be a good start to a good night's rest.
  • Get outdoors as much as possible. The natural light will help regulate your body's clock.
How to be Comfortable During a Long Flight
  • Get a pillow and blanket as soon as you board the flight
  • Use a carry on bag to prop up your feet
  • Bring a magazine or two for reading
  • Stretch - Isometrics are also good for you.
  • Flex your calf muscles 20 times an hour to improve circulation
  • Take decks of cards, snacks, books or magazines and if you prefer your own pillow
