10 THINGS YOUR MOTHER WOULD NOT WANT YOU TO DO (IN AFRICA)
1. Jump aboard a microlight and swoop over Victoria Falls.
2. Jump overboard to meet the great white shark while cage diving along the coast of South Africa.
3. Like Stanley and Livingstone, explore the mighty Zambezi River via canoe, paddling amongst the crocs and hippos.

4. Put on your leather and explore Cape Town on a Harley Davidson...drive yourself or ride the comfy sidecar.
5. Leap off the bridge at Victoria Falls with a bungee cord attached to your ankles.
6. Walk with the lion cubs of Zimbabwe, hold their tails, scratch their ears, and hear them purr.

7. Track the unpredictable rhino on foot at Phinda Private Game Reserve
8. Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and wave to the world from its icy peak.
9. Charter a bare boat through the spectacular coral reefs of the Seychelles Islands
10. Walk deep into the burial chambers in Valley of the Kings where mummies of Egyptian royalty still reign.

Private Guided Safaris

Privately guided safaris are extremely popular with repeat travelers to Africa.  Rothschild Safaris is connected with some of the best guides in the safari business.  Earlier this year Dave Luck was inducted into the Natural Habitat Guiding Hall of Fame, an amazing honor.  Lee Wittam, former guide and manager at Duma Tau and Mombo Camp, is another of the Botswana private guides and one who has a shot in the finals of the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.  Matt Copham recently left one of the private camps in Botswana to take up private guiding and on a recent trip was described by one of the guests as "just totally amazing...the most stimulating, interesting and genuine guide I have ever experienced."  Grant Atkinson is a stalwart of Botswana and spent many years in a private concession in the Okavango Delta.  His infectious enthusiasm for nature and dry sense of humor are contagious.  Guests recently described Grant as "an exceptional human being and an extraordinarily capable and eminently professional guide."

Join Smith World Travel and All Africa Expeditions on the Adventure of a Lifetime:
South Africa & Mozambique

Experience the wonders of South Africa's majestic Cape Town and wild Kruger National Park, combined with the serenity of Mozambique's Bazaruto Island!

This 11-night safari will begin in Cape Town, South Africa, where you'll spend four nights at the Four Rosmead, situated on the slopes of Table Mountain.  Continue on to the Kruger National Park and Sabi Sabi Little Bush Camp for three nights.  During the days and evenings, when you are not enjoying exquisite meals under the cover of the bush, you will be tracking Africa's big game including the Big Five in open vehicles accompanied by qualified game rangers and Shangaan trackers.

Your last four nights are spent at the magnificent Indigo Bay Lodge, Bazaruto Island, Mozambique.  Enjoy activities such as diving, fishing, snorkeling and water-skiing or you can simply relax around the beautiful swimming pools, drink cocktails (ask for a caiparinha!) at the wet bar, or wile away the day at the beach snack bar.

The cost for this safari begins at $4,400 per person.

  International flights excluded.

Accommodations with a Holistic Twist

Yoga means 'union' in Sanskrit referring to the bringing together of mind, body and spirit.

The Saxon Hotel, Johannesburg

Saxon Hotel's Essence Skin and Body Salon is set in a unique oasis, with abundant bird life and expansive areas of calm water.  It combines the very best to give you a complete health care service and provides access to a Dermalogica skin and body centre, fully equipped qym and weekly yoga classes in the tranquil gardens.

The Westcliff Hotel, Johannesburg

In addition to two private plunge-pools, The Westcliff Estate boasts two heated horizon pools, the most notable being the infinity pool on the Pool Terrace, with a bird's-eye view of the Johannesburg Zoological Gardens below.  Swim to the edge and gaze down upon elephant and springbok - a singular sensation and what's become known as the 'safari swim'!  Sunrise yoga classes are offered at certain times of the year on the lower deck of the infinity pool.

Forum Homini, Gauteng

In addition to the spa treatments available, Woodlands Wellness at Forum Homini has also introduced 'afriKan Yoga Journeys' Yoga and Tai chi Retreats and Workshops.  Paul, the principle facilitator, has over twenty years of experience in the field of Hatha style Yoga, Music, Tai chi and Meditation, allowing the retreat to be both informative and deeply rejuvenating.

Twelve Apostles, Cape Town

Apart from the tranquil Sanctuary Spa, which offers and extensive range of therapies and recuperation packages, the hotel also offers a well-equipped fitness room and two swimming  pools.  The many secluded nooks by the rock pools offer ideal spots for meditations.  Alternatively simply relax on one of the hammocks scattered throughout the beautiful gardens.

Garonga Safari camp - Private Reserve at Kruger National Park

Garonga's holistic philosophy is to offer a safari for the soul.  Besides the game drives, the lodge also offers wilderness walks.  Amongst others, they offer a 'solitude walk' where a small group does a completely silent walk.  The guide will only point out exciting signs, tracks, etc.  Each person walks about 5m apart.  On completion of the walk, the guide will explain what he pointed out.  Then each person is placed in an individual space (rock boulder or similar) and left to 'meditate' the smells and sounds of the bush for about 15 minutes.  The armed guide will remain behind the main group overseeing everyone.

Londolozi Life, Sabi Sands Private Reserve

The wellness centre - Londolozi Life - is a unique concept, drawing inspiration from ancient healing methods.  Londolozi and the Life Centre fall squarely within the base area of the Nilotic Meridian (a line running north-south from pole to pole at 31 degrees east longitude), known as the line of first time, which ensures that this is a place of great energy and significance.  Yoga classes can be enjoyed indoors or as private sessions on your deck or sala.  The yoga decks are mobile yoga floors, which are set up to best celebrate the awesome spectacle of nature and the rhythm of the day and season.  The new Londolozi, back in the hands of the Varty family, recently celebrated the opening of its Private Granite Suites and Tree Camp.  Each camp now has it own hospitality and field ranger teams, enabling commitment to creating fun, adventure and learning.
